Native Instruments et Snow Leopard

Native Instruments vient de communiquer sur la compatibilité de ses produits avec Snow Leopard. L'article (en anglais) se trouce ci-dessous:

MAC OS X COMPATIBILITY INFO

This page provides information about the compatibility of Native Instruments products with various versions of Mac OS X.

This page has last been updated on September 1st, 2009.

Native Instruments has conducted initial compatibility tests with Mac OS X 10.6, which have shown current NI products to work without any specific issues under this operating system.

However, compatibility issues have recently been observed when creating new installations of NI products under Mac OS X 10.6. This can result in a non-functional installation or in the product not appearing in Service Center for activation.

These issues do not affect NI products already installed under a previous Mac OS X version that is later updated to Mac OS X 10.6.

Native Instruments is currently investigating these issues further, and will provide new information once it becomes available. In the meantime, the installation of NI products on a computer running Mac OS X 10.6 is not recommended.

In general, users involved in professional audio production or live performance should be cautious about upgrading to Mac OS X 10.6 until compatibility with third-party audio software and hardware has been widely confirmed by the relevant manufacturers.

32bit kernel mode vs. 64bit kernel mode
All installations of Mac OS X 10.6 on Apple consumer models start in 32bit kernel mode by default. This kernel mode allows the operation of both 32bit and 64bit Mac OS X applications.

Users can activate an optional 64bit kernel mode through a special key combination during the boot process. However, drivers for NI audio interfaces and controllers are currently not compatible with 64bit kernel mode.

For the time being, Native Instruments does not recommend using 64bit kernel mode with music production software. The development efforts necessary to establish 64bit kernel mode compatibility for NI products are currently being evaluated.

64bit plugin hosts
At this point, there are no 64bit Mac versions of relevant sequencer/DAW applications available on the market. Due to the lack of suitable testing platforms, it is currently unclear whether the 32bit plugin versions of Native Instruments products would exhibit any issues in 64bit host environments.

Native Instruments is in contact with other software manufacturers about 64bit compatibility aspects. Once 64bit versions of relevant plugin hosts become available, Native Instruments will conduct the related compatibility testing and provide further information.

All current Native Instruments products work without any specific issues under Mac OS X 10.5*. However, users should make sure to download the latest updates from the NI website for maximum compatibility.

Mac OS X 10.4 is now considered a legacy operating system, and will not be supported by any NI products released after October 1st 2009.

Products and updates released after that date might not install and/or launch under this operating system. Users are advised to upgrade to OS X 10.5 / 10.6 to retain compatibility. Tech support for users of Mac OS X 10.4 continues to be available until further notice.

*BATTERY 3: An update that restores Pro Tools compatibility under Mac OS X 10.5 is currently in public beta testing, and will be released shortly.
AKOUSTIK PIANO and ELEKTRIK PIANO: The free KONTAKT PLAYER should be used to play the content of these instruments under Pro Tools and Mac OS X 10.5.
